Amritsar, India
Golden Temple
For those who live in a land of tragic history, a light will shine.
summary
For a project like Golden Temple having spiritual and religious sentiments attached to the place, ILDL used products from exclusive brands striving to achieve the religious spirit of the space as well as maintaining the aesthetics of the design. Brands like Lumenpulse, Dot-Spot and Exenia were used to achieve the desired lighting levels and effects.
about the project
A golden gate looming over the skyline shaped like the dome and the holiest of the Sikh shrines, Golden Temple (Darbar Sahib) is an important religious historic walled structure in Amritsar city located in the North West of India. The monument has some unique construction influences that combine Muslim, Hindu, and European design principles. Each element of elegance that marks this distinctive monument has its own saga of history to tell.
lighting design intent
There were two key areas: The Golden Temple and the main entrance plaza of the golden temple along with the newly built museum at the basement level. ILDL got the opportunity to achieve the lighting intent of Design Associates using products from its brand portfolio.
For the plaza, the architectural Jharokha’s were backlit using wide elliptical beam lighting fixtures from Lumenpulse that framed the architectural craft essence of the rich cultural history of the city. The main plaza was illuminated using spot luminaires. The colonnades that created a uniform facade and provided visual continuity to the shops in the plaza were also lit.
For the museum that was created with a sole reason to showcase the brave Sikhs who lost their lives fighting for freedom and the ancient manuscripts, the interior architecture and the transition corridor space was lit up using fixtures from Exenia.
